*THIS EVENT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED. PLEASE CONTACT firstname.lastname@example.org FOR MORE DETAILS*
Today's music industry is rapidly changing in a variety of environments. The way music is accessed, purchased, promoted and produced often leaves upcoming artists with many questions. The intent of the workshop is for international recording artist Kenya M. Johnson to discuss her expertise and experience as a practicing artist, owner of an independent music production company, and artist development/creativity coach. The discussion will explore Kenya's recommended "10 Indie Artist Commandments." In addition, Kenya will briefly interview indie soul artist Tracy Cruz, who is currently on a her summer "Soulshine Tour" to provide an example of a working independent artist. Furthermore, students will be provided a clear explanation of the current music industry and practical tools needed to navigate the industry as an independent artist versus a signed/label artist including access to the E-Book 10 Indie Artist Commandments written by Kenya M. Johnson. The 3-hour workshop will conclude with an acoustic performance by Kenya & Tracy Cruz.
